Juliana Hyrri

Juliana was born in Kohtla-Järve, Estonia, and moved to Helsinki, Finland, when she was little. In addition to being a comic artist, Juliana is a painter, illustrator and experimenter. She is a soon-to-be Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki and holds a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

In her comics, Juliana often deals with childhood, otherness, and uncanny opposites. Her widely acknowledged debut comic book Satakieli joka ei laulanut (2019, Suuri Kurpitsa) is so far translated into English and French.

Juliana loves collecting old kitsch porcelain animals and spending time with the living ones. She has probably petted all the local cats while at the artist residency in Mazzano Romano, Italy.
